Further anti-Russian sanctions to depend on course of special operation — lawmaker

Vladimir Chizhov recalled that the European Council had already admitted problems stemming from its policy of anti-Russian sanctions

MOSCOW, January 27. /TASS/. Further sanctions against Russia will depend on the course of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine, a senior Russian lawmaker told TASS on Friday.

"Everything will depend on the course and success of the special military operation," said Vladimir Chizhov, first deputy chairman of the defense and security committee of Russia’s Federation Council, or upper parliament house.

He recalled that the European Council had already admitted problems stemming from its policy of anti-Russian sanctions. "I would say that the first five [packages of anti-Russian sanctions] were hatched and agreed upon beforehand but, starting from the sixth [package] things have not been so smooth," he stressed.

The European Union has imposed nine packages of economic and personal sanctions against Russia since February 2022.
