Russian Foreign Ministry expects new US envoy to meet with Deputy Minister next week

It is noted that the exact date of Tracy’s visit will be announced later

MOSCOW, January 27. /TASS/. New US Ambassador Lynne Tracy is expected to visit the Russian Foreign Ministry next week, where she will meet with Deputy Foreign Ministry Sergey Ryabkov and present him with copies of her letter of credence, Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said during a briefing Friday.

"Yes, we expect the US Ambassador at the Ministry next week, where she will be received by the supervising Deputy [Foreign] Minister Sergey Alexeyevich Ryabkov. It is a necessity, which implies the beginning of preparation for fulfillment of duties by an ambassador, because, during the meeting, Mrs. Tracy will present copies of her letters of credence, after which she will be able to commence her duties as the US Ambassador to Russia," Zakharova said.

The spokeswoman noted that the exact date of Tracy’s visit will be announced later.

On Thursday, the US embassy in Russia announced that Tracy arrived in Moscow.

Tracy is the first woman to serve as a US envoy to Russia. Previously, she headed the US mission in Armenia. During the hearing in the US Senate committee on foreign affairs, she said that she agrees with Washington’s course regrind sanctions against Moscow, and supports further tightening of anti-Russian restrictions. She noted that she will consider the liberation of US nationals detained in Russia her priority.
