Russia expects those responsible for attack on Azerbaijani embassy in Iran to be punished

The Russian Foreign Ministry also offered condolences to Azerbaijan

MOSCOW, January 27. /TASS/. Moscow expects that those responsible for Friday’s attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in the Iranian capital of Tehran will be punished, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"We expect that all those responsible will be held accountable," the statement reads. "The incident once again highlights the importance for the authorities of host countries to ensure the safe operation of diplomatic missions in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations dated April 18, 1961," the ministry added.

The Russian Foreign Ministry also offered condolences to Azerbaijan.

According to Iran’s Tasnim news agency, law enforcement officers detained a man who had attacked the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran on Friday. The perpetrator came to the embassy accompanied by his two children. When interrogated, he cited personal and family problems as his motive.
