MOSCOW, January 26. /TASS/. The deployment of weapons such as the ground-based mobile Mid-Range Capability, also known as the Typhon Weapon System, in the areas where they could threaten Russia would be met with a response, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said in an interview with the Kommersant newspaper.

He made the statement after the Pentagon took delivery of the first MRC Typhon missile system, the first ground-based mid-range strike capability at the US Army since the end of the Cold War and the termination of the INF Treaty (the Treaty on the Elimination of Intermediate-Range and Shorter-Range Missiles - TASS). The deputy minister said Russia "is closely following the process of the development and putting into service US ground-based intermediate-range and shorter-range missiles."

"Their lineup is fairly diverse and isn’t limited to the missile system that you mentioned. Certainly, the deployment of such means in the areas where they will be able to threaten us will prompt retaliatory measures. Russian President Vladimir Putin has made that crystal clear," Ryabkov said, when asked if Moscow expects a repetition of the "Euromissile crisis," which broke out between NATO and the Soviet Union in the 1980s, in the event that MRC Typhon missile system is deployed in Europe.
