Kremlin lambasts 'absurd' allegations linking hackers with Russia

Earlier, publications on Telegram channels stated that after reports had surfaced of Leopard tanks being transferred to Ukraine, the Killnet group and other hackers launched a massive attack on the websites of German government agencies and financial institutions

MOSCOW, January 25. /TASS/. Along with pointing out the absurdity of the notion, the Kremlin is bewildered as to why any group of hackers is linked to Russia, Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Wednesday, when responding to reports of hacker attacks on websites in Germany.

When asked to comment on the Killnet hack he replied: "We have no knowledge whatsoever about what this group is. We really wonder why any group of hackers is associated with Russia."

"No one can explain why [such groups are associated] specifically with Russia, and not with some European country, for example," Peskov maintained.

In his opinion, "this is absurd."

"Upon observing where the vast majority of hacker attacks against the Russian Federation have been emanating from, especially against sensitive organizations, including the President’s website, a lot of attacks come from the United States of America. [So] should all hacker groups be associated with the White House? That probably would sound absurd," the presidential press secretary noted.

"This is how I propose construing such statements," Peskov concluded.
