MBABANE /Kingdom of Eswatini/, January 24. /TASS/. Moscow hopes that the countries of the African Union (AU) will take into account the real state of affairs in Ukraine in their dialogue with the West, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Tuesday at a press conference following talks with Eswatini’s Foreign Minister Thuli Dladla.
"We very much hope that our friends in the African Union will fully take into account the real state of affairs [in the Ukrainian conflict] in their relations with Western countries," Lavrov said.
He stressed that Moscow had presented facts proving that what was happening around the Ukrainian crisis was "the very same hybrid war" that the West had long been plotting against Russia and that it had been actively preparing Ukraine for such a confrontation.
"We greatly appreciate Eswatini’s reasonable and balanced position in considering the Ukrainian issue and related issues in the United Nations," Lavrov noted. "We perfectly understand the interest of our African friends in a peaceful settlement of any conflicts, including the current situation in Ukraine. We also consider political settlement to be a priority. It was in this vein that last autumn, acting on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s instructions, we proposed detailed texts of treaties on ensuring security, and on establishing security guarantees in Europe."
