Federation Council dismisses Kudrin as Accounts Chamber’s chief

MOSCOW, November 30. /TASS/. At a meeting on Wednesday, Russia’s Federation Council (upper house of the parliament) dismissed Alexey Kudrin from his post as Head of the Accounts Chamber, cutting short his tenure. That said, roughly 151 senators voted for the decision, one senator abstained, and no one opposed the decision.
On Tuesday, the relevant Committee of the Federation Council on the Budget and Financial Markets unanimously recommended that the upper house dismiss Kudrin from his position, terminating his tenure early. A respective proposal by Russian President Vladimir Putin was also received by the Federation Council on Tuesday.
First Deputy Chairman of the Committee Sergey Ivanov who represents the Federation Council in the Accounts Chamber, explained to TASS earlier that the relevant Committee of the Federation Council on the Budget and Financial Markets might compile a list of candidates to head the Accounts Chamber in the first half of December and submit it to the Russian president.
According to the amendments made to the Russian Constitution in July 2020, the Federation Council is responsible for appointing and dismissing the head of the Accounts Chamber (earlier it was the State Duma’s authority). Kudrin has served as the head of the Russian Accounts Chamber since 2018. A source told TASS earlier that he might join Yandex in the near future.
