Kremlin responds to Vatican’s offer on providing negotiations platform
Earlier, it was reported that the Vatican maintained contact with Moscow via diplomatic channels
MOSCOW, November 28. /TASS/. Moscow welcomes efforts by some countries to help resolve the situation in Ukraine but Kiev does not need negotiation platforms, Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, commenting on the Vatican’s initiative to host talks.
"We know that a number of foreign officials and governments are expressing [their] readiness to provide a platform [for talks]. Undoubtedly, we welcome such political will. However, in the current de facto and de jure situation, Ukraine cannot accept such platforms," the Kremlin spokesman stressed.
The Holy See’s Secretary for Relations with States Paul Richard Gallagher noted earlier that the Vatican maintained contact with Moscow via diplomatic channels and was ready to offer a negotiating table to Ukraine and Russia if such an offer came from the parties "with the good intention of finding a way to peace".
