Russian envoy says it would be wrong to rupture diplomatic relations with US

As the Russian diplomat pointed out, he believed that the US side also had no desire to sever diplomatic relations with Moscow

WASHINGTON, November 19. /TASS/. Moscow believes that it would be a wrong decision to rupture diplomatic relations between Russia and the United States, Russia’s Ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov told reporters on Saturday.

As the Russian diplomat pointed out, he believed that the US side also had no desire to sever diplomatic relations with Moscow.

"We have few lines of communication left," Antonov said, replying to a question about whether there were still ‘unburnt bridges’ in relations between Russia and the United States.

"We take care of them. We hold the stance that contact should not be interrupted and diplomatic relations should not be severed. I believe that this would be a wrong decision," the head of the Russian diplomatic mission pointed out.

"To my mind, the American side has no desire to interrupt the relations between the two countries," he added.

The Russian envoy said he hoped that the US Senate would soon endorse a new American ambassador to Russia and "the American embassy will work at full capacity."

In September, US President Joe Biden nominated Lynne Tracy currently serving as the US envoy to Armenia to head the American diplomatic mission in Moscow.
