MOSCOW, November 15. /TASS/. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, in a conversation with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, praised Moscow's willingness to find a diplomatic solution to the Ukrainian crisis, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement following Tuesday's meeting between Lavrov and Wang Yi on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Indonesia.
"Special attention was paid to the development of the situation in and around Ukraine. Sergey Lavrov briefed his Chinese counterpart in detail on the Russian side's position on the outlook of the negotiation process on Ukraine, emphasizing the Kiev regime's failure to agree and its focus on resolving the conflict by force. The interlocutor (Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi - TASS) praised Russia's readiness to find ways to resolve the Ukrainian crisis at the negotiating table," the statement said.
Wang Yi also informed his Russian counterpart about the results of "a face-to-face meeting held the day before between Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden." "The sides shared a negative assessment of the UN General Assembly resolution adopted at the instigation of the US and its Western allies regarding the confiscation of frozen Russian assets under the pretext of some kind of compensation to Ukraine. The results of the vote in fact show the wide global rejection of this Western trick," the Foreign Ministry pointed out.
The sides praised the dynamics of the development in Russia-China relations against the backdrop of increasing geopolitical instability and noted the need for increasing strategic cooperation between Moscow and Beijing amid the transformation of the international situation.
Lavrov and Wang Yi also discussed a number of topical issues on the bilateral agenda, including cooperation in practical areas and prospects for communication at various levels. "They discussed the situation on the Korean Peninsula, around the Iranian nuclear program and the negotiations on the JCPOA (the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action - TASS). The mutual intention to increase coordination in the UN, G20, BRICS, SCO, RIC and other key international organizations and dialogue mechanisms was confirmed. The sides also exchanged views on the reform of the UN Security Council," the Russian Foreign Ministry added.
