Macron reaffirms intent to communicate with Putin on Ukraine, Lavrov says

The top diplomat recalled that all the problems lie with the Ukrainian side, which categorically refuses to have any negotiations and puts forward conditions that are obviously unrealistic and incommensurate with the situation

BALI /Indonesia/, November 15. /TASS/. French President Emmanuel Macron is set to continue the dialogue with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on settling the situation in Ukraine, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told the press following the G20 summit on Tuesday.

"Today, I had a brief conversation with President Macron. He reaffirmed his intention to continue communication with President Putin in order to find some sort of agreements that will help settle the whole situation, as he put it," Lavrov said. "But I asked him to remember that all the problems lie with the Ukrainian side, which categorically refuses to have any negotiations and puts forward conditions that are obviously unrealistic and incommensurate with the situation."

Touching upon any possible indication of a shift in Western rhetoric towards Russia, Lavrov was rather brief: "It's hard for me to judge. The soul of another is a dark place. Especially, the soul of the European Union," he emphasized. "The darkness is very thick, and even if it does disperse occasionally - only for a very short while."
