Kremlin mum on decision to withdraw from Kherson
On November 9, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu ordered the pullback of Russian forces from the right bank of Dnieper under the proposal of Sergey Surovikin
MOSCOW, November 11. /TASS/. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov did not comment on the Defense Ministry’s decision to withdraw Russian troops in the Kherson Region to the left bank of the Dnieper River, redirecting all questions on the matter to the relevant ministry.
"I have nothing to add, and nothing to say on this topic. I call on you to address the Defense Ministry for any additional comments," the Kremlin spokesman told reporters on Friday. He recalled that the withdrawal of troops was proposed by Army General Sergey Surovikin, commander of the Russian military operation in Ukraine, and the decision was made by Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu.
"I ask [you] to refer to the Defense Ministry, I have nothing to say on this topic," Peskov reiterated. He added that the decision "concerns the course of the special military operation," so he could not comment on it.
On November 9, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu ordered the pullback of Russian forces from the right bank of Dnieper under the proposal of Sergey Surovikin, commander of the joint group of forces in the special military operation zone. The military official underscored that Russian forces have been successfully repelling Ukrainian attacks, and the decision to move the forces out was due to the threat of the group getting isolated because of potential flooding of the territory below the Kakhovskaya HPP dam. According to Surovikin, all civilians who expressed their desire to evacuate, which is over 115,000 people, have been brought to the left bank.
