Russia has no basis to predict date of new US ambassador’s arrival, diplomat says

On September 22, US President Joe Biden submitted Lynne Tracy’s nomination for Ambassador to Russia to the Senate

MOSCOW, November 11. /TASS/. There is no way to predict when new US Ambassador to Russia Lynne Tracy will arrive in Moscow if her appointment is finally approved, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov told reporters on Friday.

"We don’t even have a basis to make predictions," he said in response to a TASS question. "First, we should wait for the newly-elected US Senate to convene. I can’t even imagine when that will happen. From what we know at this point, it’s no use talking about a schedule for the approval of new appointments," Ryabkov added.

On September 22, US President Joe Biden submitted Lynne Tracy’s nomination for Ambassador to Russia to the Senate. The relevant Senate committee now needs to set a date for a hearing where Tracy will answer questions from lawmakers. After that, the US Senate will vote to approve her appointment as ambassador to Russia. If approved, Tracy will become the first woman to take the position. Ryabkov told reporters on September 22 that Russia had given its formal diplomatic approval to Tracy’s appointment as the new US ambassador to Moscow.
