Western secret services behind unrest in Iran — Russian Security Council’s chief
Iran has seen more than a month of unabated unrest that began after the funeral of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who died on September 16
TEHRAN, November 9. /TASS/. Western secret services have played a key role in masterminding mass unrest in Iran. Such actions are outright interference in the affairs of another country, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev said during Russian-Iranian security consultations on Wednesday.
"We note the key role of Western secret services in organizing mass riots in Iran and the subsequent spread of disinformation about the situation in the country via Persian-language Western media existing under their control. We see this as overt interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign state," Patrushev is quoted by the Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper as saying.
Iran has seen more than a month of unabated unrest that began after the funeral of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who died on September 16. According to the official version, the police detained Amini for improperly wearing her headscarf. During interrogation, she suffered a heart attack from which she died. On October 7, Iran’s National Forensic Medicine Organization released an official statement on the causes of the girl's death, stating that she had suffered no injuries.
