It was reported on October 28 that some unidentified vandals splattered paint on the entrance to the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Geneva. Russia’s Permanent Mission to the UN Office in Geneva expressed the hope that the Swiss authorities will conduct an investigation and bring the vandals to justice.
The Suvorov Monument in Andermatt (central Switzerland), which is dedicated to Russian army commander Alexander Suvorov and the soldiers who perished in Switzerland in the 18th century, was vandalized twice earlier. The first incident, when the monument was daubed with yellow and blue paint, happened in May. The Canton of Uri police failed to identify the culprits. The monument was cleaned up by June 12, Russia Day. In October, the monument was desecrated for a second time. The Russian Foreign Ministry called on Switzerland to ensure proper protection of the monument.
