US to be held accountable if violation of Biological Weapons Convention proven — diplomat
Even if you do not like our arguments and the facts we cite, you have no right to ignore them and shift the focus to your political assessments, Vasily Nebenzya added
UNITED NATIONS, October 28. /TASS/. The United States will be held accountable if Washington’s violation of the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention (BTWC) is proven, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya told the UN Security Council on Thursday.
"Here, at the United Nations, we all are equal before the international law, and we all proceed from it. Like it or not, but there will be accountability for violations of the BTWC, if those are proven," he said.
"Even if you do not like our arguments and the facts we cite, you have no right to ignore them and shift the focus to your political assessments," Nebenzya added.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday that Russia requested the chairman of the UN Securty Council to launch an international inquiry into activities of US biological labs in Ukraine. Moscow said it would press for an investigation under provisions of the international law, enshrined by the UN Charter and the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention (BTWC).
The ministry said that Washington and Kiev were unable to give a clear answer to Moscow’s questions on the issue during themed consultations in June and September.
