Vladimir Putin specified that Russia’s actions "highlight the ongoing events and nudge some processes that begin to happen faster than they probably have been happening until now"

MOSCOW, October 27. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin called the events in Ukraine and other recent events a part of "tectonic changes" in the world order, speaking at the Valdai International Discussion Club plenary meeting Thursday.

"The things that have been happening recently and happen now, including, for example, on the Ukrainian direction, are changes that have not started now or after the beginning of the Russian special military operation, no. All these changes have been going for many years, since long ago, they are simply being noticed by some and ignored by others. But these are tectonic changes of the entire world order," Putin said, answering a question on what has changed for him personally in one year.

The president explained that tectonic plates constantly move within Earth’s cortex.

"As specialists say, they move and move and everything is peaceful and quite. But changes do happen. Then, suddenly, they latch, and energy begins accumulating, it accumulates and then, boom - an earthquake occurs. The accumulation of such energy, this kind of outburst has led to the ongoing events. But these changes were happening before," Putin said.

According to the president, the gist of the ongoing events is emergence of new centers of power.

"They [events] happen, well, because of objective circumstances. Some of the previous centers of power fade. I’m not going to talk why it happens, but it is a natural process: growth, death, changes. New centers emerge: mostly in Asia, of course, but there is also Africa in the front, […] and Latin America," the president noted.

Putin specified that Russia’s actions "highlight the ongoing events and nudge some processes that begin to happen faster than they probably have been happening until now."

"But, overall, they are unavoidable and it would have happened regardless of Russia’s actions on the Ukrainian direction," Putin concluded.
