Envoy says Putin could seal strategic partnership agreement during Indonesia visit

Jose Tavares noted that the declaration has been in the works for a few years and that right now it was in its final stage

MOSCOW, October 21. /TASS/. A declaration on the strategic partnership between Moscow and Jakarta could be signed during a potential visit by Russian President Vladimir Putin to Indonesia, Indonesia’s Ambassador to Russia Jose Tavares said in an interview with TASS.

The envoy noted that the declaration has been in the works for a few years and that right now it was in its final stage. "Of course, once it’s finalized, it can be signed, if the opportunity arises. I think, if there is a meeting between the two leaders - of Russia and Indonesia - for example, when President Vladimir Putin visits Indonesia, it can be a good opportunity to sign it," Tavares said.

This would be another step towards elevating bilateral relations between Russia and Indonesia based on mutual respect as equal partners. "That’s the purpose of the declaration on strategic partnership," the Indonesian ambassador concluded.
