Efforts to establish contact with US futile — Russian envoy

As Anatoly Antonov said, Russian infrastructure of communication with the Americans lies in ruins

MOSCOW, October 20. /TASS/. Russian diplomats’ efforts to establish contact with the United States have been futile, Russian Ambassador to Washington Anatoly Antonov said in an op-ed published in Rossiyskaya Gazeta on Thursday.

"Our infrastructure of communication with the Americans lies in ruins. Efforts by our Russian diplomats based in Washington to establish contact have proved futile. The [US] administration is reluctant to talk with us as equals," Antonov stated.

"We aren’t fighting against Ukraine but in Ukraine, we are fighting for equal relations and a world order based on international law, the UN Charter and the implementation of the principle of indivisible security for all," the envoy added, emphasizing that under the current conditions, it was impossible to return to the previous situation where threats to Russia’s national security were mounting on the country’s western border.

"Is Washington ready for a serious professional conversation with us on issues related to global peace and stability? The answer is clear from the new US National Security Strategy," Antonov pointed out.

The White House earlier published an updated version of the US National Security Strategy, which, among other things, says that the United States is adopting a policy of containing Russia and competing with China.
