Kremlin affirms mobilization numbers cannot exceed 300,000 due to Putin’s decree
As Dmitry Peskov recounted, it was the Defense Ministry that set the quantitative targets following the presidential decree and brought them to the regions, and the heads of the regions were already responsible for organizing the work
MOSCOW, October 18. /TASS/. The number of those mobilized in Russia cannot exceed 300,000 people, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Tuesday, citing Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decree.
"We cannot talk about exceeding the total number, since the decree [of Russian President Vladimir Putin on partial mobilization] says that up to 300,000 people [are to be summoned]," the Kremlin spokesman said, answering a question about whether the Defense Ministry could ask the regions to continue mobilizing people without another presidential decree.
Peskov suggested that reporters should address the Defense Ministry for clarification on whether Russian territorial entities, which have already disclosed their fulfillment of the mobilization task, could receive a new mobilization task under the current presidential decree. "It was the Defense Ministry that set the quantitative targets following the presidential decree and brought them to the regions, and the heads of the regions were already responsible for organizing the work," the spokesman recounted. "Those thresholds that were set have already been met in some regions, which was reported," he noted.
"The decree says up to 300,000 people," Peskov reiterated.
On September 21, President Vladimir Putin declared a partial mobilization throughout Russia. Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu clarified that 300,000 reservists would be called up, who would undergo training before being sent to the special military operation zone. The partial mobilization would not involve students and conscripts. Only citizens who have prior combat experience and military specializations needed for the operation would be mobilized. The defense chief emphasized that the call-up is being carried out first and foremost for control over the territories liberated during the special military operation.
