United Nations, October 18. /TASS/. Russia urges to thoroughly weigh all consequences of potentially bringing foreign forces to Haiti, First Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Dmitry Polyansky said at a meeting of the UN Security Council on Monday.
"Meddling in the political processes in Haiti, bringing the country under the control of ambitions of known regional players, which consider the American continent as their interior court, is unacceptable," he said. "We have considered the options of responding to Prime Minister of Haiti [Ariel] Henry’s request by the international community that were presented by Secretary General [of the UN Antonio Guterres], also paying attention to various views on the matter inside the Haitian community. Many opposition-minded groups urge preventing the foreign intervention <…>," Polyansky noted.
"We urge to take into account such views and thoroughly weigh all consequences of bringing foreign forces of international and regional formats to the island," he stressed.
Earlier, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres urged the Security Council to consider the issue of deployment of international forces for tackling the humanitarian crisis in Haiti after its Prime Minister approached the international community with a request for help in countering armed gangs and the humanitarian crisis experienced in the country.
