Lavrov informs CIS top diplomats of Russian special military operation, referendums

MOSCOW, October 13. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov provided detailed information on Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine and the outcome of the referendums held in newly liberated areas to his counterparts from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Thursday following a meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers.

"The top diplomats of the Commonwealth member states exchanged views on pressing global and regional issues, and determined key areas for future cooperation within the organization," the statement reads. "The parties paid special attention to the situation around Ukraine. Lavrov provided his partners with detailed information on how the special military operation is going, as well as on the results of the referendums held in newly liberated areas and their accession to Russia," the ministry added.

In addition, the parties made important decisions aimed at strengthening relations in the law enforcement, cultural, humanitarian and human rights spheres.

"The ministers also okayed the 2023 plan of multilevel consultations between the CIS foreign ministries A number of the decisions that they made will be submitted for consideration to the CIS Council of Heads of State, set to meet on October 14, and the Council of the CIS Heads of Government, which will hold a meeting on October 28," the statement added.
