Russian security official says Europe bears brunt of damage from Ukraine crisis
Alexander Venediktov stressed that the European security system as a whole has been destroyed
MOSCOW, October 13. /TASS/. Europe shoulders the main burden of the damage from the West's anti-Russian policy and the conflict in Ukraine. With that said, the amount of economic damage will be increasing for many months to come, Russian Security Council Deputy Secretary Alexander Venediktov said in an interview with TASS.
"In reality, Europe now bears the brunt of the damage from this whole situation. The European security system as a whole has been destroyed. A colossal economic toll, which is still difficult to assess, has been inflicted on Europe. It is clear that it will be rising for many months to come," he predicted.
According to the Russian Security Council Deputy Secretary, Europe assumed in vain that it could become the beneficiary of the developments that occurred in Ukraine, but in the end the only beneficiary turned out to be the US, while the Europeans themselves reap the negative fruits of their ill-considered steps. Venediktov urged not to forget the social and humanitarian tensions that resulted from economic problems in the Old World and are now being exacerbated by the short-sighted sanctions policy. "Right now we are witnessing rising discontent in a number of countries. These trends will only increase," he maintained.
