Russian diplomat says Donbass residents would face reprisals if Kiev militants returned

The president of Russia made the only possible decision: to support the desire of the residents of the DPR, LPR and the liberated territories of Ukraine to get rid of the rule of the neo-Nazi government in Kiev, Konstantin Vorontsov said

UNITED NATIONS, October 4. /TASS/. Konstantin Vorontsov, a deputy director at the Russian Foreign Ministry’s department for arms nonproliferation and control, on Tuesday said Moscow made the only possible decision by backing the desire of the DPR, LPR and the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions to join Russia because the residents of the liberated regions would face reprisals if Kiev militants returned.

"Given the circumstances, it was impossible to ignore the will of the residents of Donbass and the liberated territories of Ukraine, who would face reprisals if Kiev militants returned," he said at a meeting of the United Nations General Assembly First Committee. "The president of Russia made the only possible decision: to support the desire of the residents of the DPR, LPR and the liberated territories of Ukraine to get rid of the rule of the neo-Nazi government in Kiev. These plebiscites were held on September 23-27, and on September 30, agreements were signed for these republics to join Russia, to return home.
