Finland’s Foreign Ministry summons Russian envoy over referendums
It is said that the Finnish Foreign Ministry said the referendums were "a blatant violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and the UN Charter"
TASS, October 3. The Finnish Foreign Ministry has summoned the Russian ambassador due to the referendums in the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, as well as of the Zaporozhye and Kherson Regions, the Finnish Foreign Ministry said on its Twitter page on Monday.
The ministry said it "summoned Ambassador of Russia today to express the strongest condemnation" of the referendums in the territories in question. The Finnish Foreign Ministry slammed the referendums "sham" and said they were "a blatant violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and the UN Charter."
From September 23 to 27, the Donetsk and the Lugansk People’s Republics, as well as the Zaporozhye and Kherson Regions held referendums on becoming part of Russia. An overwhelming majority of their residents voted in favor of such a step. On September 30, Russian President Vladimir Putin and the heads of these regions signed treaties on the regions' accession to Russia.
Speaking at the accession ceremony, Putin said that the people’s choice at the referendums on these territories was their inalienable right enshrined in the UN Charter.
