Top MP excoriates EC chief: Cool off political hot air to stop households from suffering

Vyacheslav Volodin also said that "a new scale will soon emerge in Europe - the Ursula degree" that would join the ranks of the current Celsius, Kelvin and Fahrenheit scales

MOSCOW, June 23. /TASS/. EU leaders need to tone down their feverish rhetoric instead of pressing European households to reduce the heating temperature in their homes, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said on Thursday.

The senior Russian lawmaker commented on a recent statement by President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen who proposed dialing back the average heating temperature in the EU by two degrees in order to make up for shunning Nord Stream’s gas supplies.

"It would be better for EU leaders, including Ursula [von der Leyen], to cool off the hot air in their heads in order to save European citizens from suffering," Volodin wrote on his Telegram channel.

The State Duma speaker also said that "a new scale will soon emerge in Europe - the Ursula degree" that would join the ranks of the current Celsius, Kelvin and Fahrenheit scales.

"According to Ursula, Europeans must reduce their [heating] temperature by another 10 degrees in order to abandon the gas pipelines of the Ukrainian corridor, TurkStream and the Druzhba pipeline. And to turn it down by yet another degree by terminating Russian coal purchases," he added.
