Russia to keep trying to tear down walls of indifference to Donbass attacks, envoy says
According to Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva Gennady Gatilov, Moscow will continue trying to tear down the walls of indifference
GENEVA, June 21. /TASS/. Western politicians and international rights organizations keep ignoring the suffering of the Donbass people but Moscow will continue trying to tear down the walls of indifference, Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva Gennady Gatilov said on Tuesday.
Moscow has repeatedly informed the UN high commissioner for human rights, the UN Human Rights Council and other UN rights agencies about the crimes that the Ukrainian armed forces and nationalist battalions commit against civilians in Donbass and Ukraine, the Russian envoy said, addressing a roundtable on the sidelines of the 50th session of the UN Human Rights Council.
However, in Gatilov’s words, these agencies keep ignoring blatant violations of human rights and humanitarian laws committed by the Ukrainian army. As a result, the Kiev regime "continues to show an inhumane attitude towards civilians."
"Despite an apparent conspiracy of silence among international rights agencies, the Western political establishment and the so-called independent media, we believe that it is important to tear down these walls of indifference for the sake of saving the lives of the long-suffering people of Donbass and Ukraine," the Russian envoy pointed out.
The 50th session of the UN Human Rights Council is taking place in Geneva between June 13 and July 8. Russia is not a council member but has the right to take part in its meetings as a UN member state.
