Ukraine crisis is result of West’s conniving at Kiev regime, says Russian envoy
NATO and EU countries are stuffing Ukraine with weapons, pushing it to continue fighting, while at the UN these countries stage "a propagandistic farce," Gennady Gatilov emphasized
GENEVA, June 16. /TASS/. Europe and the US’ conniving at the Kiev regime and the latter’s unwillingness to fulfil the agreements designed to end war in Donbass have led to the current crisis in Ukraine, a senior Russian diplomat said on Thursday.
For eight years "Europe and the US had cynically praised Kiev’s so called democratic achievements" instead of raising the alarm about civilian casualties in southeastern Ukraine and the persecution of ethnic, religious, and linguistic minorities, Gennady Gatilov, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Office and Other International Organizations in Geneva, said, addressing a regular session of the Human Rights Council.
Europe’s collusion with the new nationalist regime and Kiev’s lack of political will to fulfill the Minsk agreements have led to the current crisis in Ukraine, the diplomat said.
NATO and EU countries are stuffing Ukraine with weapons, pushing it to continue fighting, while at the UN these countries stage "a propagandistic farce," he said, referring to UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet’s comments on the situation in Mariupol earlier on Thursday.
Russia has repeatedly informed the UN Human Rights Council of international humanitarian law violations, committed by Ukraine’s armed forces and nationalist battalions, according to Gatilov.
By keeping silent on the violations, the UNHRC is serving Western countries’ interests and infringing on the principle of impartiality, the diplomat said.
