World already was on verge of tectonic changes last year, Kremlin spokesman maintains
When asked if it was possible to return "to the spirit of the Geneva summit" of Presidents Vladimir Putin of Russia and Joe Biden of the United States, Dmitry Peskov said that "the world wasn’t different" a year ago
MOSCOW, June 15. /TASS/. The world already was on the verge of the current tectonic changes a year ago, Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Wednesday.
When asked if it was possible to return "to the spirit of the Geneva summit" of Presidents Vladimir Putin of Russia and Joe Biden of the United States, Peskov said that "the world wasn’t different" a year ago.
"Even then, the world could feel it, the signs of what we are witnessing now in a highly concentrated form were already plain to see as we had arrived on the verge of the tectonic changes that are taking place at the moment," the Kremlin spokesman pointed out. "It’s hardly possible to return to the spirit of Geneva, to the hopes that had existed back then. There can be new hopes, but it will be a totally different mode of communication," Peskov added.
In response to a question about the possibility of Russian President Vladimir Putin delivering a special address on the anniversary of the Geneva talks, the Kremlin spokesman said: "A summit cannot be a reason for special addresses".
