Russia no longer sees Geneva as suitable venue for intra-Syrian dialogue — Russian envoy
According to Alexander Lavrentyev, the issue of choosing a new venue will require a detailed consideration
NUR-SULTAN, June 15. /TASS/. Russia believes that a new venue should be chosen for the next session of the Syrian Constitutional Committee, since Geneva has lost its neutral status, the Russian president’s special envoy, Alexander Lavrentyev, told reporters on Wednesday.
"Of course, as a Russian delegation in Geneva, we are having difficult times. In fact, we have raised the question of choosing another neutral venue for the next session of the Constitutional Committee, given the current logistical difficulties and Geneva’s loss of its neutral status," he said.
According to the Russian presidential envoy, the issue of choosing a new venue will require a detailed consideration.
"Again, we will consider this matter together with our Astana format partners and, naturally, with [UN Special envoy for Syria] Geir Pedersen. What really matters here is choosing a venue that meets all requirements and is suitable for all participants," Lavrentyev added.
