Russian NGOs insufficiently present within international formats — Lavrov

MOSCOW, May 27. /TASS/. Russian non-government organization are poorly present internationally, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Friday.

"The presence of our non-government organizations, especially from regions, is quite insignificant in international formats," he said at a meeting of the Council of Heads of Regions under the foreign ministry.

He noted however that "there is successful experience of regular presence of several regionals non-government structures within Russian delegations to the United Nations General Assembly sessions." "We would like to make it more systemic, to expand it," he said.

The Russian top diplomat noted that quite effective system of cooperation between the foreign ministry and non-profit organizations dealing with international affairs has been formed by today. "The recent assembly of the Council on Foreign and Defense Policy is a vivid example. It demonstrated a high expert potential of our scientific diplomacy and the joint work made it possible to comprehensively analyze the current developments in the world," he stressed.
