DONETSK, May 27. /TASS/. Ukrainian forces have opened fire on the Donetsk People’s Republic 3,322 times in the escalation over the past 100 days, leaving 125 civilians, including four children, killed, the republic’s mission at the Joint Ceasefire Control and Coordination Center (JCCC) said in a statement on Friday.
"Over 100 days of the escalation, 125 civilians have been killed, including four children," the statement reads. According to the DPR’s statistics, wounds have been sustained by 578 civilians, including 46 children, in the period.

The situation at the Donbass engagement line escalated on February 17. The self-proclaimed DPR and Lugansk People’s Republics (LPR) reported the heaviest shelling by the Ukrainian armed forces in months. On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a decision to recognize the sovereignty of the Donbass republics within their borders as of the start of 2014. Putin said in a televised address on February 24 that in response to a request for help from the leaders of the two republics Russia would launch a special military operation. The DPR and the LPR began liberating their territories from Kiev’s rule.
