Tokyo’s sanctions against Moscow eventually hit Japanese consumers, says ministry

MOSCOW, May 20. /TASS/. Tokyo does not understand that the sanctions being imposed against Moscow eventually hit Japanese producers and consumers, the head of the Third Asian Department with the Russian Foreign Ministry Nikolay Nozdrev said in an interview with Japan’s Kyodo news agency published on the ministry’s website on Friday.

"In the heat of the sanctions moment Tokyo does not even understand that the illegal measures blocking trade with Russia that it is imposing, eventually hit Japanese producers and consumers as well," he said.

Meanwhile, Russia remains a fervent advocate of comprehensive development of the Russian-Japanese ties on the basis of good-neighborly relations and mutual cooperation in all areas, according to the diplomat.

Earlier, Japan passed several packages of restrictions against Moscow over the situation in Ukraine. The blacklists contain over 700 citizens of Russia, Belarus, the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) and the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), as well as more than 200 Russian companies and entities. Japan has also frozen the assets of a number of Russian banks.
