Putin extends condolences over UAE president’s death

The Russian leader noted the UAE president’s contribution to the strengthening of relations between Russia and the United Arab Emirates

MOSCOW, May 13. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has extended his condolences over the death of President of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Kremlin press service said on Friday.

According to the Kremlin press service, the telegrams on condolences were sent to Crown Prince of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the United Arab Emirates Armed Forces Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed bin Al Nahyan, and to Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

"In his telegrams, Putin noted in particular that a very important period in history of Abu Dhabi and the United Arab Emirates in general is linked with the mane of Sheikh Khalifa. This period is notable for the impressing successes in the economic, social, scientific and technical development," the Kremlin said.

The Russian leader noted the UAE president’s contribution to the strengthening of relations between Russia and the United Arab Emirates. "Sheikh Khalifa has done much to strengthen friendly relations and constructive cooperation between our countries," it quoted Putin’s telegram of condolences.

According to earlier reports, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan died on Friday at the age of 73 after a serious illness. A 40-day national mourning has been declared in the United Arab Emirates. All ministries, state institutions and private companies will stay closed for three days.
