No foreign leader invited to Victory Day festivities in Moscow this year, Kremlin says
This will not be a jubilee day, Dmitry Peskov noted
MOSCOW, April 29. /TASS/. No foreign leader has been invited to attend Victory Day festivities in Moscow this year, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Friday.
"We haven’t invited any foreign leaders to attend Victory Day festivities. The thing is, this will not be a jubilee day. This is our holiday, a sacred day for Russia and all the Russian people. We haven’t invited any foreign leaders," the Kremlin spokesman said.
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko is not expected to attend either, Peskov said. "As far as I know, he is not planning" to attend, Peskov said when asked for comment.
The eighth of May marks the end of World War II for various countries across Europe. Victory Day has been celebrated in Russia on May 9 ever since the Hitlerite Germany signed its unconditional surrender with the Soviet Union on the night of May 9, 1945.
