MOSCOW, April 26. /TASS/. US billionaire Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter will not change anything and the social network will not return to being democratic and fair, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said on Tuesday on his Telegram channel.

"Purchasing social networks for exorbitant sums of money will have little effect when one owner is replaced by another. Because now, it’s not just owners who make the rules," he believes. No social network, according to Medvedev, can disregard the mood in the country where it is registered. "There won’t be any miracle makeover for Twitter," he forewarned.

"It won't become democratic again, much less fair. Unless, of course, it leaves US jurisdiction," Medvedev stated.

On April 25, Twitter executives announced that Musk would be acquiring the company for $44 bln. At the same time, the entrepreneur himself noted that freedom of speech is the basis of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is a "digital town square" where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated.
