Russian consulate in Klaipeda closes due to Lithuania’s demands
Documents connected with the registration of passports, citizenship issues, civil registry and notaries are being sent from Klaipeda to the Russian Embassy in Vilnius
VILNIUS, April 20. /TASS/. The Russian Consulate General in Klaipeda has been shut down, at the behest of Lithuania’s authorities.
"The Consulate General in Klaipeda has suspended its operations," the Russian Embassy in Lithuania confirmed to TASS on Wednesday.
Documents connected with the registration of passports, citizenship issues, civil registry and notaries are being sent from Klaipeda to the Russian Embassy in Vilnius.
The Consulate General in Klaipeda is being closed in accordance with the April 4 decision by Vilnius to downgrade the status of the diplomatic mission because of the events in Ukraine. The Lithuanian Foreign Ministry said that the Russian envoy to Vilnius must leave Lithuania, while the Lithuanian envoy to Russia is being recalled from Moscow. At the behest of Vilnius’ decision, the Russian Consulate General in Klaipeda has been closed. The Russian ambassador has already left Lithuania, the Russian diplomatic mission told TASS.
