Poland won't be able to reject Russian gas, envoy to Warsaw says
"It is very likely that the Polish leadership will announce its refusal, but in fact they will take the same Russian gas from Germany," Sergey Andreyev noted
MOSCOW, April 12. /TASS/. Russian Ambassador to Warsaw, Sergey Andreyev, cast doubt on Tuesday on the likelihood that Poland would be able to reject gas supplied from Russia.
"Our ties in the energy field remained sort of like a last sanctuary, which they (the Polish authorities) didn't decide to reject completely, and given the current situation they are setting their sights on giving up coal in the near future, first in April-May, and by the end of the year, they also are taking aim at oil and gas. There are doubts whether this is a realistic goal," he said during the Soloviev Live program.
"It is very likely that the Polish leadership will announce its refusal, but in fact they will take the same Russian gas from Germany, but formally it won’t be Russian any longer. In other words, practical interests have been sacrificed for the sake of political convenience. Of course, Poland will have losses and pay a price for it, but questioning that this is needed, or required in order to achieve a higher goal, in the current situation, it is politically unacceptable," Andreyev noted.
