Iskander missile systems destroy mercenary training base in Ukraine — Defense Ministry
Two types of missiles were fired: a ballistic missile and a cruise missile
MOSCOW, March 25. /TASS/. The crews of the Iskander tactical ballistic missile systems destroyed the training base of foreign mercenaries in Ukraine, the Russian Defense Ministry reported on Friday.
"The Russian Defense Ministry published footage of the Iskander tactical ballistic missile systems during a high-precision weapon strike on the Ukrainian military infrastructure. The Iskander tactical ballistic missile systems destroyed a training base for foreign mercenaries," the defense ministry said in a statement.
The published footage shows that two types of missiles were fired: a ballistic missile and a cruise missile. According to the head of the calculation of the self-propelled launcher, Maxim, the building was almost completely destroyed by the ballistic missile. "The ballistic missile hit the building that housed the foreign legion and the training base. Because a high-explosive penetrating warhead was used, the building, 60 meters long, was almost completely destroyed and the enemy was hit," he noted.
The commander of the launch battery Alexey specified that the complexes could use both cruise and ballistic missiles. "The task was to hit an object with a ballistic missile <...>. This missile is practically impossible to destroy, it overcomes the enemy's missile defense. There is no resistance to it, because the speed of the missile at the final stage of flight is significant, and there are no modern means that can stop it yet," he added.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation based on a request from the heads of the Donbass republics. The Russian leader stressed that Moscow had no plans to occupy Ukrainian territories and the goal was to demilitarize and denazify the country. Russia’s Defense Ministry stressed that the Russian Armed Forces were not delivering strikes against Ukrainian cities. The ministry emphasized that the Ukrainian military infrastructure was being destroyed by precision weapons and there was no threat to civilians.
