Ordinary Bulgarians don’t support their country’s move against Russia — envoy

MOSCOW, March 21. /TASS/. The Bulgarian people support neither the rhetoric nor the actions of their government towards Russia with respect to the special operation in Ukraine, Russian Ambassador to Bulgaria Eleonora Mitrofanova said.

"The Bulgarian people still do not support either the rhetoric or the actions of their government regarding the special operation in Ukraine," Mitrofanova stated in an interview with Rossiya-24 TV on Monday.

"Not all people, of course, but the majority. Because we’ve received letters of support, and many people simply translate our websites from Russian into Bulgarian themselves on the Internet. Statements by the Defense Ministry spokesman and some analytical articles are translated into Bulgarian," the Russian envoy pointed out.

On March 18, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry declared 10 Russian diplomats personae non gratae, accusing them of "activities incompatible with their status". The diplomats were given 72 hours to leave the republic. The Embassy of Russia in Bulgaria perceived this as an extremely unfriendly act, and reserved the right to retaliate.
