The sanctions options include an entry ban to Russia, the seizure of financial and other assets, a ban on any transactions with property and investments

MOSCOW, March 4. /TASS/. The Russian State Duma has adopted a bill allowing the application of sanctions against foreign citizens and stateless persons who have violated the rights of Russians or committed crimes against them, in the third reading at a plenary session on Friday.

Prior to this, such sanctions were provided only against US citizens. According to this law, certain restrictions can be applied to Americans involved in "violations of fundamental human rights and freedoms," crimes against Russians, unfair sentences or unjustified legal prosecution. Now, these penalties will apply not only to Americans but also to foreign citizens and stateless persons.

This includes an entry ban to Russia, the seizure of financial and other assets, a ban on any transactions with property and investments. Furthermore, the activities of legal entities that are controlled by foreigners violating the rights of Russian residents can be suspended, as well as the powers of those on the boards of directors and other management bodies of organizations registered in Russia. A ban on the disposal of property that is located in Russia is also likely to come into force.
