Ukrainian military use crew of Bangladeshi cargo ship as human shield — Russia’s MFA

The Bangladesh-flagged Banglar Samriddhi had been stuck at the port of Olvia since February 24

MOSCOW, March 3. /TASS/. Ukrainian military use the crew of the Bangladeshi cargo ship Banglar Samriddhi as a human shield, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

"We express our indignation over the actions of the Ukrainian military, who, contrary to international norms, have not allowed a Bangladeshi dry cargo ship to go to sea for several days and, having mined the port, are essentially using foreign civilian sailors as human shields," the report says.

Earlier, Reuters reported citing a Bangladeshi foreign ministry official that a missile or bomb hit a Bangladeshi-owned cargo ship in the Ukrainian Black Sea port of Olvia, killing one of its crew members.

The Bangladesh-flagged Banglar Samriddhi had been stuck at the port of Olvia since February 24. The crew comprises 29 people who are all Bangladeshi citizens.
