MOSCOW, March 3. /TASS/. The real aim of the United States is not to ensure Ukraine’s security on the basis of the balance of interests of all countries, but to "demonize and finish off" Russia, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview to Russian and foreign mass media on the crucial international agenda on Thursday.
"The purpose [of the United States] was not to ensure the security of Ukraine on the basis of a balance of interests but to demonize and finish off Russia. Regrettably, no doubts on this score are left anymore," he said.
Lavrov expressed the certainty the White House and the US leadership, in general, were aware of the opinions inside US society Washington’s policy towards Russia and Ukraine needed change. As an example, Lavrov mentioned an article by John Mearsheimer, of the University of Chicago, in which the author remarked that the West was steering Ukraine along a path of false expectations towards its imminent crash.
"But such (alternative - TASS) opinions are not taken into account, because the real aim is different," Lavrov said.
