Russian diplomat blames NATO for fake news about Russia’s actions in Ukraine
Maria Zakharova particularly pointed to a wave of "telephone terrorism," newsletters and hidden advertisements on social media
MOSCOW, March 1. /TASS/. Fake news about Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine is generated by NATO’s intelligence agencies, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told Rossiya-24 on Tuesday.
"Fake news keeps piling up in our information space. Moreover, I would like to point out that real intelligence services are behind it all rather than individual hackers with no connection to any infrastructure facilities. It is a major standoff that is definitely being organized and orchestrated from Brussels," she emphasized. "It certainly involves NATO’s infrastructure," Zakharova added.
The Russian diplomat stressed that most fake news cited Ukrainian citizens. "Given what is going on there, it’s clear that the last thing that common Ukrainian citizens would do at the moment would film and edit videos, using visual effects, and post them everywhere," Zakharova noted. "It is being done professionally based on the understanding of how people will take it. It is being done in a well-coordinated manner, targeting the global audience," the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said.
She particularly pointed to a wave of "telephone terrorism," newsletters and hidden advertisements on social media. "We are well aware of it," Zakharova emphasized, adding: "We have been through this more than once.".
