No accelerated procedure for accession to EU, Russian envoy says
The integration procedure was further improved and became in general more complex and lengthy in time, Vladimir Chizhov noted
BRUSSELS, March 1. /TASS/. There is no accelerated procedure of admission to the EU and the integration procedure for new states has become even more complicated instead, Russian envoy to the EU Vladimir Chizhov told TASS, commenting on calls of Ukrainian president Vladimir Zelensky to admit Ukraine to the EU "under the accelerated procedure."
"There is no variant of accelerated procedure for entry of aspirant countries to the European Union. Furthermore, the integration procedure was further improved and became in general more complex and lengthy in time," the Russian diplomat said.
"It will be probably premature to give any specific forecast for the timeframe because Ukraine has not even approached the pre-entry talks stage," Chizhov noted, responding to the question regarding potential abilities of Ukraine to enter the EU if its member-states agree to initiate the accession process.
