Putin warns against attempts to limit Russia’s sovereign right in Arctic

Vladimir Putin said that Russia is "ready on the basis of these documents to build relations with all the states of the world, including with the European Union"

MOSCOW, October 21. /TASS/. The attempts to limit Russia’s sovereign right to use its territorial sea in the Arctic are "an encroachment with improper means," Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a session of the Valdai International Discussion Club on Thursday.

"We are acting pursuant to internationally recognized documents that we have joined. And we are ready on the basis of these documents to build relations with all the states of the world, including with the European Union," the Russian leader said.

"But if someone from outside attempts in circumvention of these internationally recognized documents to limit our sovereign right to use our own territory, and a territorial sea is a part of a coastal state’s territory under international law, this is an encroachment with improper means," Putin said.
