MOSCOW, September 17. /TASS/. DDoS (denial of service) attacks on the electronic government infrastructure were successfully repelled and did not affect the quality of services provided by the remote electronic voting system, Ministry of Digital Development, Communications, and Mass Media told TASS.
"The Ministry of Digital Development reports that DDoS attacks on the e-government infrastructure have been successfully repelled and did not affect the quality of the remote electronic voting services," the ministry said.
The ministry noted that the information security tools used for the e-government infrastructure successfully repelled technically advanced targeted DDoS attacks, and there were no interruptions of services, personal data of users was also protected.
According to the ministry, the majority of mass requests were generated from IP addresses registered in the United States, Germany, and Ukraine.
"These attacks were planned and organized, which testifies to the intention to interfere with the normal operation of services and an attempt to block the electronic voting activities," the ministry said.
Elections to the 8th Russian State Duma (lower house) are scheduled for September 19, 2021, known as the Single Voting Day. The balloting process will span across three days - September 17, 18, and 19.
