Putin praises the work of Russia’s State Duma

The State Duma of the seventh convocation elected on September 18, 2016, wrapped up its latest session on June 17

MOSCOW, June 30. /TASS/. The State Duma (lower house of parliament) of the seventh convocation worked at the proper level, and the results of its work met the requirements of the situation, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during his Q&A session on Wednesday.

"The work of the parliament of the seventh convocation was not just satisfactory, it worked at a proper level. The results of that work met the requirements of the situation and the country to the work of Russia’s highest legislative body," he said.

Putin noted that the lawmakers had recently been working amid the pandemic. "It was essential to continue that work despite all the difficulties and threats, including to life and health. It was necessary to come to the voting hall and make decisions on the most important areas of the country’s life, it was necessary to provide assistance to people, specific families, enterprises, entire economic sectors. If that had not been done, the situation would have been much more complicated than the one that has evolved in Russia," he said.

The State Duma of the seventh convocation elected on September 18, 2016, wrapped up its latest session on June 17. Its Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin earlier said that a total of 427 plenary sessions had been held. During this time, lawmakers considered almost 6,500 legislations and passed nearly 2,700 laws.

Elections to the State Duma of the eighth convocation will be held on September 19.
