Russia would wait for the results of today’s top-level discussion at the European Council, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko noted

MOSCOW, June 24. /TASS/. Russia has always been ready for dialogue with the EU, especially in the current conditions, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said, commenting on the initiative of Germany and France to hold a Russia-EU summit.

"We have always said that we are ready for dialogue, especially in the current conditions, when we need to unite efforts in various areas on the issues that are of every country’s concern and develop substantive dialogue," the deputy minister said, answering a corresponding question.

Grushko said that Russia would wait for the results of today’s top-level discussion at the European Council.

Earlier, the Financial Times newspaper informed, citing diplomatic sources, that German Chancellor Angela Merkel had allegedly offered to organize a meeting between Putin and EU leaders. According to the newspaper, French President Emmanuel Macron expressed support for this idea. The German government neither confirmed nor denied this report in response to a TASS request for comment.
