Any actions possible in response to provocations violating Russian borders, says Kremlin
Earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said that Russia has the right to "bomb on target", when foreign warships violate their sea borders
MOSCOW, June 24. /TASS/. Moscow does not rule out any tit-for-tat response if unacceptable provocations violating Russian borders similar to the incident with the UK guided missile destroyer in the Black Sea continue, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Thursday.
"In case of repeated unacceptable provocations, if such actions cross the line, any actions regarding the legal protection of the borders of the Russian Federation are possible," he said when asked whether a strike by the Russian side at targets is possible in case of such incidents in the future.
Peskov refrained from explaining what actions crossing the line mean.
Earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said that Russia has the right to "bomb on target", when foreign warships violate their sea borders.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported on Wednesday that the Russian Black Sea Fleet jointly with the Border Guard Service of the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia halted the violation of the Russian state border by the UK Navy’s guided missile destroyer Defender near Cape Fiolent. The missile destroyer crossed 3 km into Russia’s territorial sea.
The border guard patrol ship conducted warning fire, while a Su-24M plane carried out preventing bombing along the route of the guided missile destroyer, after which it left Russia’s territorial sea boundaries. The Russian Defense Ministry characterized the actions of the UK’s destroyer as blatant violation of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, and urged the British side to investigate the crew’s actions.
